Q&A with Director Ian Barry & Producer David Elfick

Synopsis:

When a radioactively contaminated scientist is unwittingly smuggled out of a nuclear waste plant, WALDO (Western Atomic Long-term Dumping Org) must hunt down him down before his message of doom reaches an unsuspecting world.

The corporation’s bid to cover-up a catastrophic radioactive waste spill collides withmechanic Larry Stilson and wife and nurse Carmel who suspect nothing of the dangerous series of events unfolding as they plan a ‘lost weekend’ to rekindle marital romance in a remote valley called ‘Paradise.’

Sheltering the fugitive and dying escapee, the couple is inevitably led into mortal danger and Larry must use his racetrack driving skills to outrun a ruthless nemesis who will stop at nothing to silence them.

Notes:

CHAIN REACTION” was born from the “Nuclear Debate” of the late 1970s. With Australia possessing a third of world’s uranium, huge profits were envisaged and it was proposed to bury radioactive waste in the outback. The film presupposes such a waste dump is hit by an earthquake. The drama is driven by Hhigh quality performances by Steve Bisley, Arna-Maria Winchester and Ralph Cotteril.  Keep your eye out for cast members from Mad Max.

As if its not hard enough to shoot a movie, production of  CHAIN REACTION was not only logistically challenging due to its location but made even harder when Government investment was halved just days before the shoot began with the bureaucrats believing the film was not suitable for theatrical release. The irony of this decision became evident at Cannes 1980 when CHAIN REACTION was bought within 24 hours by Warner Bros for world release.

Chernobyl & Fukushima sadly made “Chain Reaction” chillingly prophetic.

Reviews:

"The Chain Reaction is a fun ride full of high octane chases and faceless bad guys and keeps you engaged with great stunts and an awesome soundtrack. The film is completely enjoyable and is definitely worth picking up with the new release Blu-Ray full of special features make it all that much sweeter." - Rotten Tomatoes
